Within one month of the birth of my son I knew something was wrong with the shape of his head. His crown was not where it should be, his skull seemed to be growing long(front to back) and not in width. At his one month check I brought this to the ped doc attention and I was dismissed as a anxious mother. The 2 month check up went the same way only this time the doc said everyone wants perfect pretty babies...I responded with his head shape was not like anyone in the immediate family and there is a ridge developing in the center of his forehead...dismissed again. 3 mnth check I told the doctor I was not leaving until an x-ray of the skull was done. 45 mintues later the ped doc walked into the exam room and said there is bad news. Several sutures in his skull had fused prematurely. Cranialsynastois...at 4 months a surgery was performed to correct this situation...my son sailed through with flying colors. Left uncorrected this condition would have caused blindness and poor fine motor skill development. Early intervention also eliminated reconstructive work. (There was never an issue with insurance paying for a simple x-ray either...infact my insurance company told me I had actually been very proactive...the cost of the surgery would probably pale in comparison to the cost of a lifetime care realted to this condition. A mother's intuition is there for a reason don't ever ignore it.
